GMRICS conducted four weeks collaborative (collaborated with IIT-Gandhinagar/ IIT Roorkee) summer training program on mineral exploration for eleven post graduate students of Applied Geology (six from IIT-ISM Dhanbad, four from IIT Roorkee and one from K. J. Somaiya College, Mumbai) at Copper Project Ambaji under TIME (Training Institute for Critical Mineral Exploration), approved by GMDC. This training program includes field training for geological mapping, sampling, drilling, geophysical & geochemical surveys along with hands-on experience with advanced analytical instruments at IIT Roorkee/IIT Gandhinagar and classroom lectures, laboratory exercises, field-based problem-solving exercises guided by experts from GMRICS and invited faculty from national institutions.
GMRICS conducted an onsite training program on Drilling Engineering Techniques in partnership with ICEM (International Centre of Excellence in Mining, an initiative of GMDC Ltd.) for the drilling engineers from Department of Geology and Mines, Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources, Thimpu, Bhutan at Copper Project, Ambaji Project Site. The training program included practical hands on training on drill rig setup, using drilling accessories, operation of drilling machinery, fluid circulation, conducting drilling operation, deviation survey, core processing and RQD measurements.
As per the M.Sc. curriculum endorsed by NEP 2020 and considering the MoU, GMRICS has conducted a fifteen days certified training program at Copper Project Ambaji for five under graduate students of Applied Geology from M.S. University of Baroda. This internship program included the training about exploration, mining processes, mineral processing, etc.
A 10 days certified training program was conducted on DATAMINE software at ICEM- GMDC Campus, Dev Dholera to a team of GMRICS professionals comprising Geologists, Surveyor and Draftsman. The training program organised by GMDC and conducted by DATAMINE included the basic understanding of geological data management and modelling through drillhole data import, validation, geological model creation, block model building for resource estimation.
As per the M.Sc. curriculum endorsed by NEP 2020 and considering the MoU, GMRICS commenced four months internship program for a PG student from Geology Department, M.G. Science Institute at Copper Project Ambaji. This internship program included the training about exploration and mining processes, mineral processing, etc.
Twelve UG & PG students along with two faculty members from Department of Geology, K. J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, Mumbai were introduced to onsite Petrology Laboratory at Ambaji. They were trained in identification of sulphide minerals megascopically as well as microscopically.
Two days training program has been conducted from 28th July to 29th July, 2025 for ten post-graduate students of Geology Department, M.G. Science Institute at Copper Project Ambaji. The training was about various aspects of exploration geology, typical geological features of mines and surrounding area at Ambaji.
GMRICS & GMDC jointly conducted a short-term certified training program at Ambaji for four students of M.Sc. Tech (Applied Geology) from IIT Bhubaneshwar considering the proposal endorsed by MCR 1960 and from 2016.
Field training on “geological mapping and exploration techniques for critical minerals” has been conducted from 05th May 2025 to 04th June, 2025 for ten post-graduate students of IIT-ISM, Dhanbad and three post-graduate students of M S University, Baroda at Copper Project Ambaji. The training included lectures by experts from GMRICS followed by extensive field visits and practical training. Shri Roopwant Singh, IAS, MD, GMDC Ltd., graced the valedictory function on 04th June, 2025 and distributed training certificates to the participants.
As part of our ongoing research and exploration initiatives related to critical minerals, GMRICS conducted a petrological and geochemical study of the host rock to develop a petrogenetic model. In this context, a scientific training program aimed at building the capacity of our scientists, focusing on igneous and geochemical processes and relevant techniques, was organised in the Ambaji area (Gujarat) from February 28 to March 4, 2025. Professor Sen Sarma from Lucknow University visited Ambaji during this period, engaging in extensive discussions and interactions with GMRICS Geo Scientists and providing training to young geologists.
