GMDC is a pivotal player in India’s mining sector, primarily focused on the sustainable extraction of lignite and other industrial minerals within the state of Gujarat. GMDC’s core mining operations involve large-scale open-cast mines for lignite, a key fuel for thermal power plants. Beyond this, the corporation is a significant producer of minerals such as bauxite, fluorspar, bentonite, and silica sand, supporting diverse sectors.
GMDC’s mining activities are underpinned by a rigorous and systematic approach to mine plan preparation, ensuring not only the economic viability of operations but also full compliance with regulatory standards.
A critical phase involves the meticulous review of this plan against a framework of regulatory standards set by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) and the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The review ensures adherence to the approved Mining Plan, environmental clearances, and sustainable development goals. It verifies that land use, air and water quality management, and final mine closure strategies are all legally sound and environmentally responsible. This diligent preparation and review process is fundamental to GMDC’s commitment to responsible resource development, securing necessary permits, and maintaining its social license to operate.
GMRICS is entrusted with carrying out the Preparation, Submission, and Approval of the Review of the Mining Plan & Progressive Mine Closure Plan, to be prepared in accordance with GMMCR-2017, for the following projects.
